2021-2022 Rapid React: Game Overview
Game Animation

In RAPID REACT presented by The Boeing Company, two competing alliances are invited to process cargo for transportation. Each alliance is assigned a cargo color (red or blue, based on alliance affiliation) to process by retrieving their assigned cargo and scoring it into the hub. Human players assist the cargo retrieval and scoring efforts from within their terminals. In the final moments of each match, alliance robots race to engage with their hangar to prepare for transport!

Each match begins with a 15-second autonomous period, during which time alliance robots operate only on pre-programmed instructions to score points by:

  • taxiing from their tarmac and

  • retrieving and scoring their assigned cargo into the hub.

In the final 2 minutes and 15 seconds of the match, drivers take control of the robots and score points by:

  • continuing to retrieve and score their assigned cargo into the hub and

  • engaging with their hangar.

The alliance with the highest score at the end of the match wins!

The stages of the match are as follows:

1. Shoot hoops First, the robots work to pick up balls laid around the arena. Robots can shoot these balls into a tall hoop hub with two levels to score in. Alliances have the option of either finding balls on the arena floor or stopping at a terminal to have balls dropped into their cargo holder.  The more balls scored in the hub, the more points gained!

2. Climb Rungs After the main stage, robots can earn additional points by climbing a series of rungs at a hangar. The higher a robot climbs at the hangar, the more points they earn. These points are counted at the end of the match as long as the robot is still hanging on to the rungs.

Each match begins with a 15-second Autonomous period in which Robots operate only on preprogrammed instructions. During this period, Robots work to move to a pre-selected location and launch as many balls into the hoop as possible.
